Zetterberg's return date headlines Red Wings' injury news

The Detroit Red Wings laundry list of maladies keeping their wounded players off the ice should be getting much smaller soon, as several players are hopeful to return late next week.

Call it a Red Wings' fans Christmas Miracle.

Perhaps the best news of all was General Manager Ken Holland announcing that captain Henrik Zetterberg is scheduled to return for Detroit's first game after the Christmas break at Florida - which coincides with his eligibility to come off the long-term injured reserved list.

Zetterberg hasn't played since the beginning of December after being hobbled with a herniated disk - the normally durable veteran has played in at least 74 regular season games in five consecutive seasons - not counting last year's lockout shortened campaign - but he won't reach that number this season.

Despite missing the past nine games, Zetterberg still leads the Red Wings in scoring with 30 points, an ominous stat given that Detroit has gone 2-5-2 for just six points, scoring only 20 goals in the nine game span.
