Blues lose top scorer Alexander Steen

The St. Louis Blues offensive juggernaut took another deep hit, this time claiming their top scorer.

Alexander Steen, the NHL's second leading goal scorer with 24 on the season didn't come back out to the ice for the third period in Saturday's rout of the Edmonton Oilers and has officially been listed as day-to-day.

The Blues have been even more secretive than usual regarding Steen, leading some to believe that his listed upper-body injury is a concussion, though it is not clear what causes that speculation.  Coach Ken Hitchcock has said only that Steen will miss Monday night's match in Calgary and then will be evaluated after Christmas.

Perhaps the fact that the club has recalled forward Dmitrij Jaskin from their AHL affiliate has the rumor mill buzzing regarding a long-term injury.

The Blues' top line had just become whole again as David Backes returned from injury in time for the Oilers' game to join Steen and T.J. Oshie.  Jaden Schwartz will be promoted to take Steen's spot on that line, while Jaskin will skate on the second line with Patrik Bergland and Vladamir Tarasenko.
