Update: Bruins' Boychuk traveling with team on Canadian road trip

The angusihed look on Johnny Boychuk's face and the care in which emergency personnel took in slowly removing him from the ice in Thursday night's game in Montreal had hockey fans resigned to losing the personable defenseman for a long time - possibly for good.

So when news of Boychuk being released from a Montreal hospital so he could fly back to Boston with the team surfaced, Bruins' faithful breathed a sigh of relief and gratitude that it wasn't serious enough to keep him in Canada...

...and the news just keeps getting better for Boychuk and the Bruins as an MRI on Friday revealed no structural damage to his lower back and that, according to a statement issued by the Bruins, Boychuk could return within a week:

Johnny has been diagnosed with a back sprain and will be out for approximately three to seven days. - Boston Bruins' General Manager Peter Chiarelli

Boychuck was injured when inadvertently cross-checked into the end boards by Max Pacioretty, his back muscles immediately starting to spasm - so it goes without saying that the Bruins will take things day-by-day with Boychuk, and that they're main concern is with his overall health...

...that said, according to Joe Haggerty of CSNNE.com, Boychuk appears to be on the fast track:

Haggerty also tweeting:

Good news for the Boston Bruins and for Boychuk going forward.
