Devils confirm Brunner out at least a month with bum knee

New Jersey Devils right winger Damien Brunner has been shelved by the team for a minimum of four weeks due to a lower-body injury, the result of a knee-on-knee collision with Anaheim Ducks defenseman Mark Fistric on Friday night.

Injured teammate Ryane Clowe, who has been out of the Devils' lineup for over two months with a concussion, thought the injury was a bad one when it saw it happen, but didn't think it was a purposeful play by Fistric.

"I don't know what the injury is but it looked pretty bad when I was watching it. I had an ACL tear a few years ago. I hope it's nothing like that.  I think going into the boards might've helped him brace it. I think the boards helped him for sure. It was a weird play. (Fistric's) knee was out.  A lot of times you finish your hits like that. You're not really sticking your knee out. The guy might pull up. He just got him in the right spot. It's too bad. He was playing well." - Clowe

That seems to be the general consensus with the Devils - accidental, but an unfortunate break all the way around as Brunner was just starting to round into form before the hit.

"You feel for him because he was really starting to play well and get his legs, get his confidence. It's a tough break for him and for us." - coach Peter DeBoer

General manager Lou Lamoriello confirmed that Brunner suffered a  right knee injury, but will not require surgery. After undergoing an MRI it was determined Brunner will undergo rehab.

The 27 year old Brunner found twine eight times in 32 games this season with five helpers.
