Blue Jackets' Marian Gaborik has surgery

Hard-luck Columbus Blue Jackets' right winger Marian Gaborik reportedly underwent surgery on Christmas Eve to stabalize his broken collarbone.

The odd timing certainly falls in line with the way Gaborik's season has gone thus far, what with being out of the lineup for 18 games with a bum knee, then breaking his collarbone his first game back from that injury, being the meat in a Braydon Coburn and Zac Rinaldo Philadelphia Flyers' sandwich that sent the veteran forward to the long-term injured reserved list.

Not only does the most recent malady for the perpetually injured Gaborik mean that his season is essentially in shambles, but it also puts his availability to the Slovokian National Team in serious jeopardy for the 2014 Sochi Olympics - just as an abdominal injury and subsequent surgery toward the end of last season kept him from participating in the IIHF World Championships.

Blue Jackets president John Davidson described Gaborik as “devastated” by his string of tough luck, but judging from his latest tweet he's happy to be done with the procedure and anxious to get started on rehab.
