Stars' Fiddler on fast track to return from UBI

Feared to be out for upwards of a week with an upper-body injury, Dallas Stars' center Vernon Fiddler could travel with the team when they embark on a three-game road trip starting Thursday night in Nashville.

The 33 year old veteran was on the ice prior to the Stars' Tuesday morning practice, making coach Lindy Ruff look like a seer when he said he didn't expect Fiddler would be out very long, but his progress is even surpassing his optimism.

He's doing better than we expected.  I think sometimes these things come around quicker than you anticipate. - Lindy Ruff

Fiddler sustained the injury during the opening period on Saturday against Philadelphia, leaving for the room and not returning.

The nine-year NHL veteran has two goals and six assists in 28 games this season, rating a minus-3 and averaging twelve minutes of ice time in 28 games.
