Philly's Schenn, Jackets' McElhinney play in Flyers' victory

Philadelphia Flyers Brayden Shenn did not miss Thursday night's win over the Columbus Blue Jackets despite being listed as questionable, the result of being slammed face-first into the dashers by Washington Capitals' Tom Wilson on Tuesday night.

Wilson asserted that Schenn turned away from him as he approached and that it was Schenn's actions that made the hit worse than it should have been - Capitals coach Adam Oates called it a clean hit and general manager George McPhee called it a great hit.

The League Department of Player Safety agreed with the Wilson during a phone interview on Thursday afternoon and didn't take any punative action against him.  Wilson was issued five-minute major for charging and a game misconduct.

He also received a five-minute major for fighting in the immediate aftermath of the hit.

Schenn, stumbled off with the aide of team trainers, but told reporters the next day that he was fine and wasn't administered a concussion test.

The Flyers beat the Blue Jackets 5-4 in Curtis McElhinney's return from a lower-body injury, the veteran netminder showing some rust in stopping just 34 of 39 shots on goal.
