Coyotes' Michalek on shelf with bum hip

A recurrence of a chronic hip malady has sidelined Phoenix Coyotes defenseman Zbynek Michalek indefinitely.

The veteran blue liner missed nine games earlier this season while nursing the same hip, and seemed to have aggravated the issue in Tuesday night's loss to the Montreal Canadiens - leaving after his first shift of the night.

Michalek left the team, which is in the middle of a four-game road trip against the Eastern Conference to be evaluated and treated by the team's medical staff.  He has been placed on the injured reserved list and in his stead the team has recalled defenseman Rostislav Klesla from Portland of the American Hockey League.

Klesla has seen action in 16 games this season, contributing one goal and helping on three others, rating a plus 10 and eating nearly 16 minutes per game and from the looks of things could see extended time with the club as Michalek is projected to be out for a couple of weeks.

Michalek is a 20 minute per game blue liner with four assists and a plus 10 rating.
