Blackhawks' Crawford tweaks groin, sidelined up to three weeks

Chicago Blackhawks' netminder Corey Crawford will not be between the pipes on Tuesday night in Dallas, nor anytime in the next three weeks due to a groin injury.

Crawford was forced from Chicago's 6-2 win over the Florida Panthers in the opening frame, going down to the ice to make a routine save, but could not rise back to his skates without help - moving very gingerly and in considerable pain as he reached the bench and headed for the room for evaluation.

Rookie goaltender Antti Raanta replaced Crawford.

With both Crawford and veteran Nikolai Khabibulin on the skids and only Raanta on the depth chart, the team recalled Kent Simpson from the minors to take his place.

The Stanley Cup winning goalie continues to win, posting a 17-6-3 record thus far in the 2013-14 season despite a mediocre save percentage of .907 and a goals against average of 2.47.  Raanta has a record of 5-3-1 and has a stat line of .922 and 2.16.

Coach Joel Quenneville initially thought the injury wasn't too serious, but the medical evaluation on Monday revealed that the injury was more debilitating than originally believed.
