Stars' Gonchar day-to-day after taking puck to the face

"He’s all right, he took a puck to the face and isn’t feeling well, so he has to stay out for a while probably." - Dallas Stars coach Lindy Ruff

With all of the injuries the Dallas Stars have been dealing with recently, Ruff has had to become the king of understatement to keep the teams' fans on an even keel, even where veteran blue liner Sergei Gonchar is concerned.

The 39-year-old greybeard took a biscuit to the mug in San Jose Saturday night trying to block a shot, and now joins fellow defensemen Stephane Robidas, Trevor Daley and Aaron Rome on the skids - though Rome is practicing and may be able to play by Monday in Los Angeles against the Kings if Gonchar isn't able to go.

Gonchar has yet to score a goal this season in 48 shots, but has 12 helpers in an average ice time of 19:02.

Adding insult to injury, Sharks' back-up goalie Alex Stalock stopped all five shooters he faced in a shootout with the Stars at the SAP Center in San Jose, while Joe Thornton broke a scoreless deadlock in the shootout period to give the Sharks a 3-2 victory.
