General Manager Jarmo Kekalainen gave Blue Jackets' faithful the harsh news on Tuesday, one day after Dr. Greg Berlet performed the procedure at OhioHealth’s Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Center. The team had hoped that rest and rehabilitation would solve the issue, but Kekalainen said the team was forced to relent to the surgical path after three weeks.
"We're disappointed for Jared as he has worked very hard and is an important part of our team, but we expect him to make a full recovery and hopefully return to the lineup later this season." - Kakalainen
Boll has been on the Blue Jackets' Injured Reserved list since November 26th - retroactive to when the injury occurred when Boll blocked a shot in a 6-2 loss at Vancouver four days prior.
Columbus has a shot at making the playoffs, which would probably be the only shot that Boll will have to make a significant impact with the team this season.
The big forward joins an ever-growing list of players on the shelf for the 'Jackets, with Cody Bass, Sergei Bobrovsky, Marian Gaborik, James Wisniewski and Nathan Horton all laid up with various maladies, while Derek MacKenzie, Curtis McElhinney and Dalton Prout are all questionable for Thursday's game at Philadelphia.
