Ducks' Mathieu Perreault sidelined; Etem recalled

After a promising start to his 2013/14 season, Anaheim Ducks center Mathieu Perreault is on the shelf with an unspecified lower-body injury.

Perreault previously missed two games in November with flu-like symptoms, and his game has tailed off since, tallying just one assist in the 12 games since he returned - a far cry from the 13 points in 15 games that marked the beginning of his season.

According to a report from the Los Angeles Times, he has been working through a lower-body injury for an unspecified period of time, and perhaps this stint on the Injured Reserved list is related and intended to shut him down completely so that the issue can be resolved once and for all.

My strength is not all the way there, I'm a guy that relies on my skating. When it's not there, it's hard to really be myself on the ice. - Anaheim Ducks' center Mathieu Perreault

In his stead, the team has recalled forward Emerson Etem from Norfolk after a brief demotion.

Etem, the Ducks' first-round pick in the 2009 NHL entry draft, has 10 points in 24 games for the Ducks this season, averaging just over 13 minutes per contest, and has scored five points in three games since being sent down last week.

Anaheim also recalled journeyman faceoff specialist David Steckel.
