Lightning lose Hedman, Aulie; gain Brewer and Gudas

The Tampa Bay lightning are going to run out of defensemen.

At least that's the way it seems, as their blue line took two more cruel hits with Victor Hedman and Keith Aulie both being confirmed on the shelf after each left their game against the Ottawa Senators on Thursday might in the second period.

Hedman is the biggest blow, suffering a lower-body injury and is expected to miss at least a week.  His 15 points lead all defensemen on the team by a wide margin and has played in every Lightning game this season while the well-traveled Aulie broke a bone in his hand that will require surgery and is out indefinately.

On a more positive note, coach Jon Cooper expects to get back a couple of mended defensemen as Eric Brewer and tough guy Radko Gudas are set to return on Saturday night as the Lightning host the Winnipeg Jets.

Gudas was lost three weeks ago after tangling with the Anaheim Ducks' Luca Sbisa and suffered what was first believed to be superficial facial injuries, but the longer he remained out the more it was thought that he had suffered a concussion, probably from Sbisa's wicked uppercut in the video above.
