Red Wings' Zetterberg joins Datsyuk on the skids

For the first time in seven years, the Detroit Red Wings took the ice at Joe Lewis Arena short both Pavel Datsyuk and good friend Henrik Zetterberg - and they got stomped.

Tomas Tatar did his best imitation of his missing teammates, notching his 4th and 5th goals of the season, but it wasn't nearly enough as the Philadelphia Flyers won 6-3.

Datsyuk has missed the past five games with a concussion and now Zetterberg has landed on the skids, a bulging disc in his back at issue.  Zetterberg has 30 points in 28 games played this season and sports a plus-12 rating, while Datsyuk has accounted for 23 points in 24 games.

Datsyuk's status has never really been made clear and has been listed as questionable for each game that he has missed.  Coach Mike Babcock has vowed not to play Datsyuk until he is 100 percent, so it is reasonable to assume that he will be just as cautious with the 33 year old Zetterberg.

April 18, 2006 is the last time that neither player took the ice for the Red Wings, a game that they lost to the Nashville Predators.

Zetterberg may have been trying to play through the pain in his last couple of games, being shut out on the scoresheet in Detroit wins at the Islanders and at Ottawa.  Wednesday night's loss to the Flyers dropped the Red Wings to 14-8-7 on the season - good for 35 points and 3rd place in the Atlantic Division.

The Red Wings travel to New Jersey to take on the Devils on Friday night then will have to catch the red eye back to Hockeytown in time to host the Florida Panthers on Saturday night.
