Zdeno Chara sidelined for Bruins vs Senators

As if missing the "German Hammer" wasn't bad enough, the Boston Bruins will also faceoff against the Ottawa Senators on Saturday night without "The Condor".

Bruins' fans heard the bad news on defenseman Dennis Seidenberg early this afternoon, his ACL and MCL torn to shreds in a freak accident behind the Bruins goal late in Friday night's 5-0 rout of Ottawa - but it wasn't until nearly game time at the Canadian Tire Centre in Ottawa for the back end of a home-and-home series that it was announced that team captain Zdeno Chara would miss the game as well.

According to WEEI.com in Boston, Chara would miss the game with an unspecified injury and is being considered day-to-day.

With both of the Bruins' most feared hitters on the skids, the onus falls on three rookie defensemen, two of them called up from the Bruins' AHL affiliate in Providence, Rhode Island just hours before the game - one of them arriving at the arena during pregame warmups.

Expect the Senators to take advantage of the Bruins being short-handed on the blue line and on the back boards as the Bruins lose a tremendous amount of size.
