Trevor Daley lands on Stars' IR

Dallas Stars' top-minute defenseman Trevor Daley suffered a high ankle sprain in Thursday night's overtime loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs and has been placed on the teams' Injured Reserved list.

Toronto scored the first goal of the game less than a minute into the second period when Daley couldn't immediately get to his skates after falling into the dashers after he and Leafs' forward James van Riemsdyk became tangled up, center Nazem Kadri taking a pass from an uncovered van Riemsdyk in front of the Stars' goal and easily flipped the puck in for his eighth of the season.

Daley was helped off the ice by teammates after the goal and didn't return.

Coach Lindy Ruff doesn't expect Daley's injury to be a short-term issue., so with fellow defenseman Stephane Robidas also on the shelf, the onus falls on youngsters Jamie Oleksiak and Kevin Connaution to pick up the slack and guard the Stars' blue line.

Both of the kids played in Thursday night's game, with Connauton assisting on the game-tying goal and almost scoring the winner in overtime.

The 30 year old Daley played in every game this season, scoring one goal and helping on four others while averaging 19:39 of ice time per game.
