Stars Fiddler to IR; recall Gaunce in reaction to Rome injury

The Dallas Stars have announced that forward Vernon Fiddler has been moved to the team's injured reserved list retroactive to the Upper Body Injury that he suffered on December 7th against the Philadelphia Flyers.

The move was, in part, an attempt to clear  roster space for the team to recall defenseman Cameron Gaunce from the Texas Stars, the team's AHL affiliate in the wake of defenseman Aaron Rome suffering a Lower Body Injury against the Colorado Avalanche on Monday night, leaving Dallas with just six healthy blue liners.

Fiddler can be activated from the IR at any time, and may coincide with Rome being placed back on the list if his injury is related to his chronic hip issue.

Stars' coach Lindy Ruff was optimistic this time last week that his veteran center would be able to return to the lineup at some point during their three game road trip starting last Thursday in Nashville after being given a prognosis by team doctors that he could be out for a week or more, but was placed on the IR despite skating with the club on Tuesday morning.

Rome's disappointing season took another turn for the worse on Monday night when he left the game with the Avs in the first period and didn't return - it was just his third game with the club after returning from offseason hip surgery and playing in eight games in the AHL on a rehab assignment.  No word was given initially on the severity of his injury.

Gaunce is a career AHL player, spending time in the Avalanche organization and eleven games up with the team in the 2010-11 season in his only NHL action to date.
