Sharks' Martin Havlat hit the shelf with LBI

Martin Havlat's season of pain has gone into overdrive.

An injury-waiting-to-happen, Havlat has played in just 22 games, most of his lost game time coming at the beginning of the season as he recovered from offseason groin surgery - coach Todd McLellan moving him around the lineup to try and spark some production.

“We’ve talked a lot about being patient with him, and letting him play his way into shape, and his timing, and all that stuff." McLellan said shortly after Havlat was activated in late October. “We’ve done that. Now, it’s about results.”

The 32-year-old was the subject of trade rumors, both Ottawa and the New York Rangers expressing interest in mid-November, but the two years and $10 million remaining on his contract perhaps squelched those - though the Czech right winger also has a no-trade clause in his contract.

Havlat has just three goals and five assists in his 22 games and averages 15:20 in ice time, sporting a plus-five rating.

The injury occurred sometime before or during the Christmas break, and he has missed three games with the lower-body ailment.  The team placed him on the injured reserved list on Monday and gave no further information, not a timetable for return.
