The New Jersey Devils placed defenseman Anton Volchenkov on the injured reserved list on Friday with the all-encompassing malady - retroactive to December 27th - and then activated him on Saturday in time to put him on the roster against the Sabres in Buffalo.
The stay-at-home defenseman contributes very little on offense but eats up almost 18 minutes of ice time and sports a plus-four rating in 31 games this season.
The 31-year-old's rates in hits and blocks on the statsheet, but has just six points on the season, all on helpers.
