Red Wings' Datsyuk held out against Dallas

It's not unusual for tenured veterans to get "Maintenance Days" in the dog days of a hockey season, but when the day of rest and treatment overlaps into missing game time, that raises concern.

Detroit Red Wings' coach Mike Babcock announced that centerman Pavel Datsyuk would miss Saturday night's match with the Dallas Stars and, combined with his maintenance day and the fact that Detroit does not play again until Thursday night against the San Jose Sharks, it is hoped that whatever is ailing Detroit's scoring machine will have had time to mend.

Datsyuk missed seven games earlier in the season with concussion like symptoms, but still proved to be a dangerous scorer, finding twine 15 times and assisting on 17 others in 35 games played this season.

The Red Wings can ill-afford to lose any firepower at all, as they currently stand a full 10 points behind Boston in the Atlantic Division and their 48 points and 5th seed a tenuous 3 points better than the Ottawa Senators, who are on the outside of the Eastern Conference playoff bracket looking in.

Detroit, who has a maddening and curious 6-10-7 home record is just 4-5-1 in their last ten games.
