Blue Jackets place Jack Skille on IR

Perhaps a stint on the IR is just what the doctor ordered for Columbus Blue Jackets' right winger Jack Skille.

Limited by injuries to just 12 games this season, the speedy and tough forward has tried to play through various nicks and dings, including a painful injury to his forearm, the result of taking a puck while blocking a shot - but a reported abdominal injury has landed the 26-year-old on the list.

A bottom-six winger, his average ice time sits at just over eight minutes per game, but his high energy and antagonistic board work makes him an ideal fourth-line winger.  He has four points in his 12 games with the Jackets, all on goals including one game-winner.

Skille suffered the injury sometime early in the team's 5-3 loss to the Colorado Avalanche, leaving just one shift into the second period.  Subsequently, he has missed the Blue Jackets' last two matches, a win at Phoenix and a loss at St. Louis.

Columbus finishes up a four-game road trip on Monday at Madison Square Garden against the New York Rangers, which is the last game that Skille is required to miss as his placement on the IR is retroactive to December 31st.
