Sabres' Henrik Tallinder suffers possible rib injury

Buffalo Sabres veteran defenseman Henrik Tallinder will be on the skids for upwards of two weeks with what interim coach Ted Nolan is describing as an "upper-body" injury.

Though there was little confirmation from Nolan, it appeared as if Tallinder injured some ribs when he was run into the rounded part of the glass near the home bench by the Capitals' Aaron Volpatti early in the Sabres' 2-1 win at Washington on Sunday.

Buffalo is in the midst of a miserable season, their 26 points dead-last in the Eastern Conference - and, indeed, the entire league -  leaving them little chance at a playoff run, though they are a respectable 5-2-3 in their last 10 contests.

The 35-year-old stay-at-home defenseman has just 6 points in 34 games and sports a poor minus-12 rating. but was good for 19:21 of average ice time per game, drawing praise from the interim coach:

“Somebody goes down, everybody has to give a little bit more,” Nolan said before Tuesday’s game at Winnipeg. “Especially with Tallinder. He’s been playing really good for us. We’re gonna miss him but we’ve got to play.”
