Kings' Brown delivers cheap shot to Blue Jackets' Murray

How long will the National Hockey League suffer Dustin Brown's antics?

The Los Angeles Kings' right winger hasn't discovered his scoring touch yet this season - in fact, it's been a few years since he's really been a factor on the offensive end of the ice, so in order to remain relevant - not to mention worth his hefty contact - Brown has apparently taken to being a goon.

His latest act of malfeasance is also his favorite tactic, throwing a "Chicken wing" elbow to the chin of Columbus Blue Jackets' rookie defenseman Ryan Murray, a nasty blow that caused Murray to be upended and striking his head on the ice.
Brown getting punked after the shot on Murray

Brown gained national headlines earlier this season after initiating knee-on-knee contact with San Jose Sharks' rookie phenom Tomas Hertl, tearing his MCL, ACL and miniscus, ending the acrobatic scorer's season.

Fortunately, Murray was able to return, but as coach Todd Richards reminded reporters after the game, "Even though Murray came back, you never know what tomorrow morning is going to bring,"Then Richards launched into a verbal tirade.

"The hit certainly stirred up a lot of emotion in me," the Blue Jackets bench boss offered. "The way that I saw it, our player was vulnerable and in a vulnerable position, the distance traveled, Brown left his feet. To me it looks like it was a forearm right to the chin and the primary point of contact was the head."
"I don't know what else you have to do to get a five-minute major." Richards added. "The guy has done it before."

Two rookies, two dirty hits, lots of angry hockey players - but no suspensions this season.  How long will it be before someone pulls a Shawn Thornton on Brown?  As it is, Brown is already a moving target whenever the Kings play San Jose, Dallas or Minnesota for cheap shots on unsuspecting and vulnerable players, and the animosity is not limited to just those teams as Brown discovered against the Boston Bruins last month:

That's how to deliver a hit, shoulder into the chest - not a chicken wing into the jaw.

Brown has been suspended once since taking up the goon act last season, for delivering one of his elbows to the chin of Jason Pominville of the Minnesota Wild in April of last year.

And to top it all off, Brown is going to wear the "A" on his chest while representing the United States Hockey team in Sochi - kind of makes one wonder what the priorities are for the NHL and Team USA...
