Blue Jackets' Gaborik's status up in the air

Columbus Blue Jackets' coach Todd Richards has a tenuous return date for his talented, yet oft-injured forward Marian Gaborik - key word being, "Tenuous".

Gaborik has missed 19 consecutive games with a broken collarbone suffered in his first game back from a 17 game absence due to a knee sprain and has played just 18 games all season - so some conditioning and contact drills will be essential to him returning to action in the first game back from the break on February 27th...

...but that's going to be very difficult to accomplish given that teams are not allowed to hold practices during the Olympic break, so if Gaborik is not medically cleared to play for Slovakia in the Sochi games, he will have to work out on his own and very well will not be ready for the projected return date.
Gaborik will travel with 'Jackets to California

"We don't have scheduled practices so you're going to be losing a little bit of it there compared to a normal in-season thing where our hands are on him every day, he's out skating every day," Richards lamented on Saturday.

The white-hot Blue Jackets have cooled a bit since running off a string of eight consecutive victories, losing three straight after that remarkable run, but have now won two in a row heading into "Murderer's Row", the three day swing through California that sees them in Anaheim, Los Angeles and San Jose - all tough venues.

The three-time All Star will accompany the team on the swing and will practice with the team but will not play.
