Bruins' McQuaid laid up until after Sochi games

Boston Bruins' defenseman Adam McQuaid hasn't suited up for the Bruins since suffering a leg injury in their January 19th loss to the Chicago Blackhawks - and now it looks as if he'll be out until after the Olympic break.

McQuaid, a stay-at-home defenseman for Boston, has missed 30 games so far this season with various lower-body injury and has just five assists and 69 penalty minutes to show for his 16:00 of average ice time when he is healthy enough to skate.

He hasn't started skating yet, so it would be very doubtful that he would play until after the break," Boston bench boss Claude Julien said on Monday afternoon. "If he's 100 percent, and I checked on him today, they weren't putting him on the ice and he was only going to start skating sometime this week, so he been out too long for me to just throw him out there.  I would be very surprised if you see him here."

This season has been particularly tough, injury wise, on the Bruins' blue liners  - so far this season in addition to McQuaid's 24 games missed, Dougie Hamilton had been out for 15, Matt Bartkowski 15 and Dennis Siedenberg has missed 20 and will miss the remained of the season with a knee injury.

Team captain Zdeno Chara has been forced to sit out one game with an unspecified ailment, but will miss the final two games before the Olympic break as he tends to his team captain and standard bearer duties for the Czech Republic at the Sochi games.

David Warsofsky has been recalled from AHL Providence to assume Chara's place on the roster.
