The Carolina Hurricanes have faced the question of what to do with their plethora of goaltenders once all are healthy, but Cam Ward has once again enabled them to put the decision on hold.
Ward, who has missed a month of action already this season due to a lower-body injury has been sidelined yet again, though it is unclear if his current malady is related to his past injuries - regardless, the 29-year-old will not accompany the team on their two-game roadie to Washington and the Island.
The 'Canes recently called up Anton Khudobin, who was fulfilling a two-game rehab stint at their AHL affiliate in Charlotte to complete his recovery from an ankle injury and already have a healthy Justin Peters - both of whom have better numbers than Ward in the time has been able to put in.
There is speculation that Carolina would be looking to deal one of the three once all are healthy, but given the frequency of Ward's infirmary visits, they may be best served keeping three netminders through the season.
As it is, Carolina is in the midst of a particularly rough stretch of injuries, defensemen Tim Gleason and Jay Harrison, and centerman Riley Nash missing time recently with a variety of dings and also left winger Jiri Tlusty, who underwent an apendectomy this week.
There are no updates on either of the blue liners other than Harrison is still dealing with concussion-like symptoms and is listed as day-to-day, while Nash is expected to miss a week with a lower-body injury.
