When Los Angeles Kings captain Dustin Brown had his skates clipped out from under him just as he tucked the puck in the Canucks' goal and given a shove by Vancouver Canucks centerman Mike Santorelli, he spun, suspended in mid-air, his legs whipping into the head and chest of the veteran goalie Luongo...
...the force of the impact knocking Luongo backwards, his legs trapped beneath him. Brown was immediately helped to his skates by his celebrating teammates while Luongo lay prone in the crease, his head and shoulders across the red line.
"My foot got caught under me as he was accidentally running me over. Luckily this time, the pain went away. It was a tough call. Hockey is a fast game and that's what we want to do to the opposing goalie too – crash the net and create havoc." - Roberto Luongo
Luongo was checked out by team trainers and stayed in to finish the match, which the Canucks' eventually lost, but it came to pass that the hit caused some sort of injury, as the veteran netminder was nowhere to be seen Sunday night in Anaheim, backup goalie Eddie Lack between the pipes.
Gillis confirms Luongo injury from Brown collision. Nature of ailment not clear yet but could be longer than day-to-day. Higgins has flu.

The nature of the injury has not been disclosed, but one can only assume from Luongo's statement that it can be classified as a lower-body injury, specifically to a leg or a foot. Perhaps a little more disturbing for the Canucks and their fans is the fact that no one came to Luongo's aid as he lay sprawled in the crease - seems that Canucks' coach John Tortorella has a bigger problem on the team than whatever Luongo's injury is.
