A bum knee will keep St. Louis Blues' centerman Vladimir Sobotka from participating in the Sochi Olympic Games.
Sobotka suffered the injury when he struck the dashers in an awkward fashion after being tripped up inadvertantly by Carolina defenseman Justin Faulk during the Blue's 3-1 loss to the Hurricanes on Friday night and has been placed on the teams' Injured Reserved List.
The news out of St. Louis is that he will be reevaluated in four weeks, or just about the time that the league is up and running again after the two-week Olympic sabbatical.
Good news for the Blues and thier quest for the Stanley Cup, but bad news for the Czech Republic who was counting on the young two-way center to play a vital role in their own quest for Olympic gold - and, of course, bad news for Sobotka, who would have been participating in his first games.
But a healthy Sobotka coming out of the break would be the best possible news for the injury-prone Blues, who are one of the Western Conference heavyweights and among the favorites to vie for the Cup. The 26-year-old has seven goals and 18 helpers in 46 games for St. Louis this season.
